Overall objectives of the action

Based on the successful project Early warning system UA SK (EWS UA SR), HUSKROUA/0901/136 to intensify and deepen the cross border cooperation of two regions: Zakarpatska region in UA and Košický kraj in SK in the field of emergency preparedness for floods, fire, and other natural disasters incidents

Specific objectives of the action

▪ To enhance and enlarge existing EWS UA SR (built within the project HUSKROUA/0901/136) – a joint early warning system in the floodplains of the rivers Uzh, Tisa, Latorica, and Bodrog in Zakarpatska region in UA and Košický kraj in SK in order to reduce the risk of death tolls, economic and financial losses and other damage in case of floods in the basins of the chosen rivers. ▪ To improve the life quality and safety of the citizens of two regions: Zakarpatska region in UA and Košický kraj in SK by enhancement of the EWS in the areas endangered by floods.

Estimated results

▪ Enlarged and enhanced existing early warning system by 40 electronic sirens, 2 relay centres, and enhanced main control unit in Uzhorod in UA and by 42 new electronic sirens, and 4 communication units in SK, ▪ 2 international workshops for public administration from Zakarpatska and Kosicky regions organized in Uzhorod and Kosice, ▪ 2 press conferences & press released ▪ bilingual Ukrainian-Slovak leaflet 400pcs, 160 banners, 50 posters, 4 articles about the project and its activities in UA and SK press
