2015 May 28. - – Field workshop for forest management authorities within project HUSKROUA/1101/262 “HYDROFOR: Systems of optimal forest management for enhancing the hydrological role of forests in preventing the floods in Bodrog river catchment”

Project partner National Forest Centre (Slovakia) with beneficiary - NGO FORZA, Agency for sustainable development of the Carpathian region (Ukraine) and partner Ukrainian Research Institute for Mountain Forestry named after P.S. Pasternak are going to organize the Field workshop for forest management authorities in the frame of project HUSKROUA/1101/262 titled “HYDROFOR: Systems of optimal forest management for enhancing the hydrological role of forests in preventing the floods in Bodrog river catchment” financed from the ENPI CBC Programme Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine 2007-2013.

Date: May 28, 2015, 12:00-19:00 – Field workshop for forest management authorities, 1st day
Date: May 29, 2015, 09:00-17:00 – Field workshop for forest management authorities, 2nd day

Venue: Conference-hall of Armales hotel, Stakčín vil., Slovakia and forests under management of “Forestry and agricultural property Ulič, state enterprise”

The field workshop will be held for the mixed group of forest management practitioners and scientists from Slovakia and Ukraine (total 30 participants). Workshop is aimed at field demonstration of relations between forest management and flood risk.

The agenda of the field workshop will include the following presentations and discussion topics:
Cooperation of stakeholders in flood mitigation with respect to the role of forests – discussion with the participants of the seminar for community representatives and stakeholders
Forest management practices for decreasing flood risk (shelterwood system, selective logging etc.)
Maintenance of forestry transportation network
Management of small water flows
Field part of the workshop in the forests of Forestry and agricultural property Ulič, state enterprise with demonstration of forest management applied in decreasing the flood risk

Besides the field workshop, the visit to forest of Havešová nature reserve near Stakčín village, which is part of the Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians inscribed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO in 2007.

The seminar is aimed at informing the representatives of the communities and stakeholders of the target areas about the project results and proposed measures to improve the forest management practices in order to prevent the floods; mediating and supporting the dialog and information exchange with the foresters of local forest management units.

The agenda of the seminar will include the following presentations and discussion topics:
HYDROFOR project results
Role of forests in flood regulation and ways of its optimization
Cooperation of stakeholders in flood mitigation with respect to the role of forests – discussion with forest managers
Visit to forests of Forestry and agricultural property Ulič, state enterprise with demonstration of forest management applied in decreasing the flood risk
