2013 June 19. - Joint Ukrainian-Slovak field event for forestry practitioners

NGO FORZA, Agency for sustainable development of the Carpathian region (Ukraine) and Partner – National Forest Centre (Slovakia) are going to organize the first joint Ukrainian-Slovak field event for forestry practitioners from the State Forest Enterprises subordinated to the Transcarpathian Forest and Hunting Administration and Ivano-Frankivsk Forest and Hunting Administration and forestry practitioners from the state forest enterprises of Kosice and Prasiv regions of Slovakia in the frame of project titled HUSKROUA 1001/028 “Foresters towards lifelong learning for better forest management” financed from the ENPI CBC Programme Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine 2007-2013.

Educational sample plot of close to nature silviculture in Rosilyna forest range of State Enterprise “Solotvyno Forest Management Unit”, village of Mizhhirya, Bohorodchany district, Ukraine (site field visit)

The joint field event for mixed group of 30 forestry practitioners, scientists, environmentalists, project team members from Slovakia and Ukraine and mass-media is aimed at providing opportunity for across the border exchange of professional knowledge and experience on the topic of common interest – multifunctional forest managements and close to nature silviculture and promotion of the project results. The agenda will include issues of:

·         Spruce die-back as a challenge to the forest multifunctionality and field visit to the spruce die-back site for practical discussion

·         Close-to-nature silviculture and conversion of spruce stands into uneven aged and multispecies stand and field visit of close to nature sample plot, discussion

·         Presentation of Carpathian Regional Training Center for forestry practitioners and

·         Field trip to the educational sample plot on close-to-nature silviculture, presentation of the aim and description of plot, discussion
